On February 13, 2024, at the UPR (Universal Periodic Review) pre-session for Vietnam, Percy Nguyễn delivered a statement on behalf of Boat People SOS and Coalition to Abolish Modern-day Slavery in Asia (CAMSA) on two issues: trafficking in persons and freedom of religion.
CAMSA raised concerns about trafficking in persons and the Vietnamese government’s failure to comply with the Palermo Protocol as recommended in the previous review.
The slides can be seen here.
The full statement can be read here.
Here is the factsheet from CAMSA and BPSOS.
In advance of the pre-session, CAMSA had sent to the Human Rights Council a joint submission on several human rights issues, including trafficking in persons.
The 46th session of the UPR for Vietnam will take place on May 1, 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland.
